Review: Eevee Point Salad

Collecting points until the last second
Eevee Point Salad is a delightfully fast and enjoyable card game that keeps the suspense going until the very end: you only really know who wins when the points are tallied. I happened to buy it once when I ordered another game on eBay—and since I had to pay for shipping anyway, this one ended up in my basket too. From South Korea, the game then traveled via Belgium to Spain, where we finally got to try it out under the Spanish sun.
The game follows the classic Point Salad game style: two rows of cards are laid out on the table, from which you either take one point card (which indicates how you score points) or two Pokémon cards. Each turn is therefore a trade-off between strategy and expediency, and each player gradually builds their own unique scoring system.
This Pokémon version revolves around the different Eeveelutions, but the gameplay mechanics remain the same: short, accessible, and surprisingly tactical. Even our kids played a game—though they mostly enjoyed choosing Pokémon rather than scoring points ;).
There are a few cards in Korean, but that's no problem. You can easily remove them from the deck, or you can learn a little Korean in no time. Fortunately, our numbers are no different from Korean numbers, which makes up for a lot. And if a card pops up unexpectedly, you can always look it up.
In short, Eevee Point Salad is a snappy, colorful take on a game that has already proven to be fun and addictive – and it does so in a Pokémon theme that is sure to appeal to fans.
