Overseas

You start with seven location cards and a postcard with an end-game objective, and choose in which of the ten European regions you will begin. The game lasts four rounds of seven days each, and every day you convert into a visit. Visited locations provide points, cards, or income, and sometimes new opportunities further into the region. Weekends are reserved for festivals and for the bigger adventures on your bucket list. After four weeks, you tally up what you have visited, collected, and checked off.

What makes this game unique is that the cards depict real places, with accurate details, allowing you to learn something along the way without it feeling like school. It comes in a sturdy box, with decisions that only truly show their impact in the third week. In Germany, the first edition sold out before the Spiel fair ended, which speaks volumes about its appeal. If you're looking for a quick game, this isn't it, as the first round takes longer than the box promises. For those who enjoy traveling and planning, this is a game box to dedicate an entire evening to.
