What is the game about?

The season is about to begin. The fields are ready, the clouds are clearing, and high in the sky, the moon dictates the pace. As a farmer, you don't work against nature, but with it: the moon phases guide the fertility of your field, rewarding one strategy and complicating another. Root, bulb, seed, or fruit—each crop has its place in the chain, its family, its moment. Row by row your field grows, column by column it takes shape, until after twelve turns the moment of harvest arrives and it becomes clear whose planning has yielded the most bountiful crop.

How do you play the game?

The game lasts exactly 12 turns; each turn you must play one crop card in your field and may optionally place one goal card above or below a column. At the end, you will have built a field of exactly 3 columns with 4 crop cards each and a maximum of 6 goal cards. Four things count towards the final score: the dominant moon phase in your field, combinations of crop family symbols, the top goal cards, and the bottom goal cards. The player with the most victory points wins and can call themselves the best farmer.

This is the ideal game for...

You can play this game with 2 to 4 players, from 10 years old. The duration is approximately 25 to 40 minutes. The language of the game is Dutch, but you can play the game completely language independent.

How is the game experienced?

Crops offers a surprisingly deep puzzle game in a compact package, where every card placement affects multiple scoring paths simultaneously. The moon phases as a scoring mechanism are an original discovery that gives each game a different priority and forces players to choose a direction early on. The game is mentioned in the same breath as titles like Cascadia and Hens by those who love visual grid-building with tight, logical rules.
