What is the game about?
Somewhere between the tree roots and the moss, far from human sight, live gnomes who silently tend to nature. At night, they emerge to carefully arrange circles of mushrooms – the fairy rings that people find with surprise in the grass in the morning. The garden grows tile by tile: glittering paths wind through wild flowers, and colorful mushrooms appear everywhere along the edge of each completed ring. Whoever most skillfully guides their gnomes through the hollow and brings the full baskets to market in time, goes home with the most beautiful treasures.
How do you play the game?
Each turn you choose two hexagonal tiles and add them to the community garden, ensuring that the mushroom paths connect. If you complete a ring, you collect all mushrooms on it — but only if you have a gnome on that path. Completed rings advance a marker on your player board, providing additional bonuses depending on the ring size. Then, you move one gnome to perform an action: claim mushrooms, sell them at the Pinwheel Market for treasures, collect flowers, or activate a signpost. Points come from the treasures you earn; whoever has the most points at the end wins.

How is the game experienced?
Gnome Hollow looks playful and accessible, but clearly has more depth than its cute theme suggests — reviewers describe it as noticeably cleverer than Carcassonne, without feeling heavy. The link between completed rings and bonus actions creates a satisfying cascade effect, while the flower and market strategies add extra layers for those ready for them. The magnetic player boards are a particularly beloved detail that significantly enhances the practical gameplay experience. Designer Ammon Anderson's watercolor illustrations give the game a warm, unique look that clearly sets it apart from the average tile-laying game.
