What is the game about?

Somewhere in a baseball stadium, halfway through the seventh inning, the most absurd event in the world takes place: the mascot race. Four figures in monstrous costumes—Hurley the Hotdog, Gobbler the Bear, Dangle the Anglerfish, and the enigmatic Mum—dash onto the track, attempting to be the first to cross the finish line. Or at least, that's the plan. Because people in bulky costumes who can barely see where they're going don't always stick to the script. They run into the wrong lane, collide with each other, dramatically fall flat on their faces, turn completely around, and then enthusiastically run in the wrong direction. The racetrack unfurls from the side of the box like a giant newspaper banner, the mascot figures are thick and toy-like, and the atmosphere is that of a stadium full of people who have money riding on something and are very much bothered by it.

How do you play the game?

Before each race, the cards that form the race deck are laid face up on the table, allowing players to assess what's about to happen. In snake draft order, everyone chooses two bet tokens: a bet on a mascot (first, second, or third place) and/or a prop bet (a yes/no question about an odd race event). Each bet can be flipped to its risky side for a higher payout — but also a higher loss. After that, each player secretly adds one card from their hand to the race deck, which is then shuffled and three cards are blindly burned. Then the race begins: card by card is revealed, and the mascots move — forward, backward, swerving, falling, spinning, or moving all at once. Anyone who flies off the track or has already fallen and is hit again is disqualified. After three races, whoever has the most money wins.

Hot Streak is described as one of the most entertaining and funniest party games of 2025. Its charm lies in the perfect combination of apparent control (you see the cards before the race) and total chaos (three cards burned, everyone throws in one of their own) — making you simultaneously think strategically and scream on the sidelines. The mascot characters, the bizarre extendable racetrack, and the prop-bets all contribute to the festive atmosphere. Critical notes are scarce but fair: if you're looking for true strategic depth, you've come to the wrong place. But as a noisy, accessible spectacle game for any table, it delivers exactly what it promises on the box: bet, watch, and scream your head off.
