What is the game about?
The kingdom is buzzing with rivalry: every baron wants their castle to be the tallest, most ornate, and most imposing. Tower after tower rises from the foundations, windows and roof tiles adorn the walls, and the baron proudly circles the path in search of golden coins. But building is not that simple — each new tile must be the sum of the two tiles below it. The higher you build, the further your baron jumps, but also the more difficult the puzzle becomes. And every coin you collect gives you a powerful one-time advantage that can turn the game on its head.
How do you play the game?
On your turn, you draw two tiles into your tile holder, OR you build one tile on your castle from your hand or the shared market. Each placed tile must be numerically equal to the sum of the two tiles below it (±1 adjustment is possible at a cost). Depending on the position and type of tile, your baron moves a number of steps on the common path; if you land on an opponent, you jump past them for free. Bonus spaces provide tiles, actions, or coins. Each coin has an immediate one-time effect. The first player with seven coins wins.

How is the game experienced?
Castle Builder combines a clever arithmetic puzzle mechanic—each tile must be the sum of the tiles below it—with an accessible and visually appealing castle-building experience. Reviewers praise the surprising tactical depth behind the simple rules and the enjoyable tension that arises when choosing tiles that both you and your opponents need. Naomi Fryxelius' illustrations give the game a charming medieval character.
