What is the game about?

After a series of disasters, civilization has collapsed and everything is starting anew, this time in balance with nature. The Scottish Highlands lie desolate: ruined castles, empty valleys, forests that have reclaimed themselves. The old clans set out to make the land habitable again, and each of them wants to gain the most prestige in the reconstruction. The board shows Scotland on one side and Ireland on the other, in warm colors that are the opposite of a post-apocalyptic landscape. This is a future where things will turn out well.

How do you play the game?

Each turn, you blindly draw a tile from your personal supply and place it somewhere on the hexagonal board. Castles, villages, farms, and monasteries yield points depending on what surrounds them, so where you place your tile determines everything. The player with the majority in a region claims the corresponding quests. Gradually, the board fills up, and choices become scarcer. After the last tile, you tally up your score, including end-game bonuses.

How is the game experienced?

Knizia in his purest form: you place a tile and you immediately know you’ve given something away elsewhere. Reviews particularly highlight that the rules can be explained in five minutes, while the games themselves become quite intense. The game won the Kennerspiel des Jahres 2026, which is not a given for a title with so few rules. The artwork is warm and calm, and it immediately stands out on the table. Those who prefer many different actions to choose from might find this a bit too bare.
