What is the game about?

The Empire rules through fear, the Sith manipulate through the Dark Side, and the villains of the Clone Wars, the Original Trilogy, and the Sequel Trilogy stand side by side in their quest for power. Darth Vader wants to bring Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side, Kylo Ren struggles with his inner light and darkness, General Grievous collects Jedi lightsabers as trophies, Asajj Ventress completes missions for her Sith masters, and Moff Gideon tries to seize the power of the Force through Grogu. Each villain has their own agenda — and those of the others get in their way.

How do you play the game?

On your turn, you move your character to an adjacent location on your personal sector board, perform the available actions (play cards, deploy allies, collect ambitions), and draw up to four cards. With the Fate action, you draw two cards from an opponent's fate deck and play one onto their board — heroes and obstacles that slow down their plans. The Ambition system regulates the speed at which villains can achieve their victory condition, and ships in Deep Space offer additional actions. The first player to fulfill their unique victory condition wins.

How is the game experienced?

Star Wars Villainous successfully expands the Villainous formula into a completely different universe, with new mechanisms that make the game more complex but also tactically richer than the Disney original. The five villains play fundamentally differently and are thematically well developed — Darth Vader's fate cards can both hinder and help him, Grievous' lightsaber hunt is mechanically satisfying. Reviewers appreciate the depth but warn that the learning curve is steeper than with Disney Villainous.
