What is the game about?

The Castles of Burgundy takes place in medieval Burgundy, where players, as aristocrats, develop their own principality. You establish settlements, build castles, develop river trade, and utilize the wealth of mines and travelers. Each tile you place represents a new step in your region's growth and initiates immediate benefits or long-term strategies.

How do you play the game?

In each of the five phases, players roll their dice and use them to take and place tiles, deliver goods, or gather workers. The chosen tiles are first placed in a waiting area and then placed on the player board when the appropriate die value allows. Each tile activates a unique effect that grants new actions, points, goods, or flexibility to your dice. Points are distributed continuously throughout the game and again at the final scoring, with fully populated regions providing additional rewards.

This is the ideal game for...

You can play this game with 1 to 4 players, from 12 years old. The duration is approximately 70 to 120 minutes. The language of the game is English, but you can play it completely language independent.

How is the game experienced?

The Castles of Burgundy remains one of the strongest Eurogames ever designed because it offers an exceptional balance between rule simplicity and decision depth. The way dice simultaneously restrict and open up possibilities creates a clear tension with every turn. The game rewards planning but never feels rigid: there are always multiple ways to keep your engine running. This edition with expansions makes the whole more complete and versatile, without adding unnecessary baggage.
