What is the game about?

The Wild West: dusty streets, a saloon where fortune and misfortune go hand in hand, and a motley crew of characters all with their own agenda. The Sheriff enforces the law in his own peculiar way, the Gunslinger strikes fear, the Gambler plays with other people's fortunes, the Bandit takes what he can — and somewhere among all those people, there's a useless goat nobody wants but always seems to end up somewhere. Everyone at the table tries to get richer than the rest, and you do that by bluffing cleverly, accepting the right cards and passing the wrong ones to your neighbor — with a poker face.

How do you play the game?

The game consists of three rounds (four with two players). The dealer looks at four character cards, chooses one, and offers it face down to another player — while being obligated to announce which character it is, but is allowed to lie. The receiver decides: accept (the card goes to them) or refuse (the dealer keeps it themselves). Then the dealer role moves to the left. After each round, a saloon phase follows in which the characters activate their effects — the Sheriff arrests bandits, the Gunslinger threatens their neighbors, and so on. Whoever has the most coins and property tokens after all rounds wins.

How is the game experienced?

The Good, the Bad and the Goat is praised as a smooth and accessible bluffing game that doesn't just use its western theme as a backdrop, but has fully interwoven it with the game mechanics. The saloon phase at the end of each round creates a tense moment where previously made decisions are rewarded or mercilessly punished. Both courage and human nature count, making it more than pure luck — but don't expect deep strategy here. In the right group, it results in lively, sometimes deliciously mean games full of mistrust and laughter; those looking for something heavier will quickly find it too light.
