What is the game about?
Learning to read music starts with a page full of dots and lines, and with someone saying it's a matter of repetition. Tonaludo puts that repetition into 86 cards. Each card shows a note on the staff, in treble or bass clef, with a color that matches the colors of boomwhackers. Suddenly, repetition is transformed into a cheerful game for learning through play!
How do you play the game?
Tonaludo contains 86 cards and three game modes. In Lightning Notes, you name as many notes as possible on your own in thirty seconds; in Note Race, the difficulty builds up step by step; and in The Note Duel, you play cards against each other, and whoever names the correct note the fastest wins. Each card shows a note on the staff in treble or bass clef, and the back provides the answer, so you can check if you were right without guidance. No prior knowledge is required: you start with the simplest notes and work your way up from there.
This is the ideal game for...
You can play this game with 1 to 2 players, from 8 years old. The duration is approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The language of the game is Dutch, but you can play it completely language-independently.

How is the game experienced?
For many beginners, music theory is the point where enthusiasm wanes, and that is exactly where Tonaludo introduces a game instead of a workbook. The design is the result of two years of work and more than 100,000 digital simulations to calibrate the structure and difficulty level. In 2026, it won the Golden Die, the Belgian competition for educational card and board games. The smartest feature is the self-check on the back of the cards: those practicing at home do not need anyone to check if they are correct. Tonaludo helps players recognize musical notes faster, remember them better, and practice with more enjoyment. Through play, repetition, and challenge, learning to read music becomes an active and fun experience.
