What is the game about?

Two people on the same wavelength understand each other with just half a word. Wavelength turns that into a device: a large plastic screen with a rotating dial and a pointer that disappears behind a flap. The cards always feature two opposites, from hot versus cold to underrated versus overrated. The whole evening revolves around that one narrow grey area where people never quite agree. Hence the discussions afterwards, which are often more enjoyable than the point itself.

How do you play the game?

A player from the active team sees where the hand is pointing and gives a description that matches it. Their team then moves a hand themselves to where they think the target is. The closer to the center of the zone, the more points. The other team can then guess whether the target is to the left or right of that guess and earns an extra point. The first to collect enough points wins.

This is the ideal game for...

You can play this game with 2 to 12 players, from 14 years old. The duration is approximately 45 minutes. The language of the game is Dutch.

You can always find more information on BoardgameGeek.

How is the game experienced?

This is Codenames with a bit more depth, and it works mainly because the conversation afterwards is as much fun as the guessing itself. The box looks psychedelic, but the game simply asks you to think clearly about how others think about things. Reviews suggest that its success depends on the group: with people who don't like to reason out loud, it falls flat. The device is sturdily made, which helps because it will be passed around all evening. I find it one of those games where you just end up staying too long.
